Where can I buy a hawthorn tree? so I can harvest the red, roundish edible berries from it.?
If your local garden centers don't offer Hawthorn trees in the spring or fall, you could try the following sites:
Raintree Nursery has four varieties:
http://www.raintreenursery.com/catalog/p...
Nature Hills has one variety still available called Crusader (Crataegus crusgalli 'Crusader'):

Good Luck! Hope this is helpful.

They have those all around town every year... at McCormick Place, Rosemont Convention Center, etc. I've see some people get some good deals there, but you have to get there early. The really great bargains go fast. And, yes, you can get cheap laptops there, but mostly they are bare-bones, stripped down models.

I have some new trees(crabapple,redbud,hawthor... big will they grow in 1 year?
Growth : Development of young redbud to the flowering stage is rapid. Young redbuds have been observed first flowering when less than 4 years old but do not fruit the first year of blossoming. Under optimum conditions new trees can grow 1 ft. in height the first growing season. Growth slows a little after the tree reaches 10'. Continuous terminal growth is related to light intensity, photoperiod, and temperature. Once established, trees can endure much shading.
I have some new trees(crabapple,redbud,hawthor... big will they grow in 1 year?
yes, they will, if you tend them well

Who agrees hawthorn could be a power house this year?
with the likes of crawford, hodge, campbell brown and a couple of others missing on the weekend they looked awesome even though they didn't play much ,and id say the cats are far from having it in the bag this year.
what are your thoughts?
Who agrees hawthorn could be a power house this year?
agree forky, they just might be, but they did only play Melbourne, who i think are the worst team in the league.
having said too, the hawks had some decent players out.
i think the hawks will make the 8, good side, on the way up.
the geelong bloke from the USA, mate that is the first time I've seen you say anything a bit stupid, Franklin wont have to kick 6-9 a game, for a start no one will kick 6-9 a game, that's at 6=132 for the year and at 9 a game=198, bit of a silly statement mate.
the hawks have enough goalkickers to make the top 4, Williams, dew,Franklin, great onballers, good defence too.
the cats, still reckon they are a good thing forky, they are the complete package, plenty of goalkickers to share the load, Bartel didn't fire on the weekend either. i reckon they're home already.
go tigers.
Reply:After they thrashed Melbourne they could have some potential and will do even better when they get there team back to full strength.
Reply:they sure can be, i am quite biased but i don't see another team with the potential as the hawks at the moment.
the players you mention will only improve this team, i think they can push for the top 4 for sure.
Reply:yeah i think the Cats, Sanits and the Hawks will fight it out
Reply:Buddy Franklin had better not get hurt or suspended. He will need to kick 6-9 a game for Hawthorn to make the top 4. I think Hawthorn will make the 8 any way.
Reply:there is a chance this year that they will but remember this
Carlton have got great spirit this year
but there is a big chance of hawthorn
Reply:Simply Yes
They have been steadily improving over the last few years with basically the same playing group
They have recruited well this year, Dew could be the surprise buy of the year Rioli and Stokes look the goods
Settled coaching staff, flamboyant president I reckon its bad Karma to seriously talk up your teams chances but if we don't win the flag this year I will be a little disappointed
Dark sec makes a lot of sense it is only early days
Isn't it great its only round one and were already talking about September
Reply:definitely
with the players still to come in they would have to be one of the deepest sides in the league excluding geelong. with williams coming back the likes of rioli might not get a game but at most other clubs they would he in the starting 18 every week. they have good skills as well. i think dew was a good pick up just for his delivery inside 50. he could help the power forwards like franklin and roughead kick an extra 10 goals each this year
Reply:I think they can do well but there are other teams just as good as the Hawks though, It is a very tight race to the top.
Reply:I wouldn't say powerhouse, the guys are young and still getting that all vital experience. Very pleased about all the outs we had and still played good footy. The Hawks will be up there again at the end of the season.
The fact is it's just one match, i agree they looked great and was happily cheering for them with my son.
I think it wouldn't have mattered who played Melbourne last week the result would have been the same, they just weren't switched on.
Rogue, you know your boys can't beat us ..... bring it on and the hawks will walk away with the win.
- Go Hawks
Reply:I doubt whether they will go all the way. One could not guage them on the game against melbourne - because , let's face it - Melbourne do not have much talent running around the ground.
Plus Hawthorn, in this first match anyway, had a couple of forwards who were, inexperienced; big headed; grandstanding to the crowd etc..... I will wait to see how they go when they come across teams with a bit more talent than Melbourne.
Reply:They look strong at the moment, but we are only one game in to the season! They still need to prove themselves over the long haul, but they are a force to be reckoned with at the moment.
Reply:I think that Hawthorn will be a power house because they have some of the best players in the league. Stuart Dew looks to be a great player even at his age. I think this is Hawthorn's lucky year and I'm not saying this because I barrack for them.
Reply:HELL YEAH!!!! GO HAWKS!!!!!! THE CATS ARE PROBABLY SHITTING THEMSELVES!!!!!

"Yes the hawks will definitely make the finals and are one of the 4 teams (in my opinion) that can make the grand final.
They Have a Great Midfield, one of the best going around with Mitchell, Hodge, Crawford, Lewis, Sewell and Young.
Hawthorn Have a well structured forward line built around Franklin but also including Boyle, Roughead, M.Williams, Dew and Rioli.
Their defence is pretty good as well but not as good as others. Guerra, Birchall, Bateman, C.Brown and Ellis make up the small/running defenders and Gilham and Croad are the key defenders, but if croad doesnt pull through (he got injured) then Roughead will go down back.
The Hawks rucks aren't great but they still do the job. Campbell and Taylor create a contest for the hawks midfielders to rove to.
So they have the potential to make the last match of the season but it's still only rd1 and we've only seen them play against the likely wooden spooners so we shouldn't judge any teams so quickly."

...in a question titled "Hawthorn Hawks?" and it was pretty much asking the same thing.
YOU must've been fooled by the margin and venue of the Cats and Hawks matches - The Cats defeated probably the 2nd best team of last year and probably the 2nd best this year as well at their home ground (PA would be more suited to aami stadium than geelong) and Hawthorn defeated the 16th best team in the comp at their (well both team's) home ground by a massive margin.
Geelong are still the best team in the comp and Port Adelaide are probably still the second team.

How much does it cost to get into a Hawthorn game??
Tickets for Hawthorn games at the MCG range from $33.00 - $42.50. Tickets for games at Testra Dome range from $21.75 - $51.25. The amount you pay depends on where you sit at the ground and the prices I have given are for Adult tickets, children, students %26amp; pensioner tickets may be cheaper. i haven't been to a game in Melbourne for a few years back then all games were the same price except the scg who rip off footy fans by charging about 15dollars extra just for general admittance, but i think its about 20 or so to get in

Tickets for one adult at the Telstra Dome or M.C.G. start at about $22.

What chance do you give the crows this week against hawthorn?
they beat us last week quite well
hawthorn didn't beat us like Adelaide did, either we are playing worse now or Adelaide has gotten better, i think it is the first, we are worse, piss off tiva, bowds and a couple of others and put our young blokes back in to run like mad men.
hawks are a better side but stranger things have happened, it is in Adelaide.
What chance do you give the crows this week against hawthorn?
Last year when Hawthorn played Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, the Crows won by 71 points.
Hawthorn have so injury troubles as well, Sewell will be out, Bateman is doubtful, Robert Campbell may miss this week and also Guerra probably won't play.
Won't be a blow out, Adelaide definitely do have a chance. All depends on if the Crows can keep Buddy and Hawthorn's midfield fairly quiet.
Reply:I don't think they will, with the talls the hawks have in the forward line as well as the small crumbers it will be tough to stop them scoring, even though the Crows defence is good it will be a big task for them. Not to mention the inclusion of Dew and Hodge with a game under his belt after his hammy, think the hawks will get over the line
Reply:well i went to see the clash between these two earlier in the year and have to say that hawthorn should win easily
adelaide's lack of youth will bite them and with the loss of burton the crows will find goals hard to come by
however if buddy and roughy are in accurate hawthorn may lose
my tip:hawks by 25 points
cheers
Reply:Truthfully anything is possible. Its true Franklin is hard to stop but stop him and Hawthorn crumbles he is definitely the pace setter in that side.
Plus its being played in Adelaide with the home field advantage i think we can all agree itl be a good game.
Atleast we dont have to be winning by more than 40 points at three quarter time just to win ey Port...Still hurting i picked them last week

the answer, is 14 YEARS AGO. it has been 14 years since the hawks have beaten the crows at Aami. that is why i would give the crows a big chance. last time crows faced hawks here in aami, the crows absolutely thrashed em by a good 10 or 12 goals
Reply:they do. hawks are great and franklin is awesome but they can go off the boil at times. if adelaide play good then they might win. i dont think the hawks are quite there yet, to the standard geelong have set.
Reply:i think it will be a close match. the crows are a good side but i hope they lose the match only coz i want collingwood to go above them on the ladder.
Reply:Adelaide to win and win comfortably. Its played in Adelaide, the Hawks are good, but the Crows can match them. Stop Franklin....you stop Hawthorn from winning.
Reply:None whatsoever.
Geelong are the only team with enough quality defenders to put pressure on Franklin (but two of those are now injured).
Hawks live around that guy at the moment and he looks unstoppable. Hawks by 80 points +
Reply:I actually think Adelaide could be the side to beat the Hawks...never underestimate a side - thats the motto of this season!!
Maybe I'll even tip the Crows for an upset ;)
Reply:You gotta give evry team a chance.
Adelaide can definately beat Hawthorn but they need to be in top form. It would be a major upset if the Crows won.
I think the Hawks will win easily though.
Reply:None the Crows are really only just getting thru there games they have played no real competition for a few weeks Hawks will be way 2 strong and should win by no less then 40 points
Reply:I give them a good chance of beating Hawthorn.
Hawthorn have shown that they have a few players that can't handle prolonged pressure.
Reply:Ha Ha Ha...That's a joke -Right...
The Crows have no hope in hell of beating the Hawks,Franklin is just too good...
Hawks will win by at least 10 goals i rekon......
Reply:no way in hell will adelaide win hawks are to strong with buddy.roughie, willow, boyle and rest of our goal kicking we will win easily

hawthorn didn't beat us like Adelaide did, either we are playing worse now or Adelaide has gotten better, i think it is the first, we are worse, piss off tiva, bowds and a couple of others and put our young blokes back in to run like mad men.
hawks are a better side but stranger things have happened, it is in Adelaide.

Theres a hawthorn hedge between us and r neighbrs. its neally taken my sons eye out twice ,anything we can do?
is ther anything we can do , are these still allowed ?
Theres a hawthorn hedge between us and r neighbrs. its neally taken my sons eye out twice ,anything we can do?
trim the hedge... and keep Junior away from it.
Reply:I'm not sure what the laws are like where you live, but sharp pointy plants are still perfectly legal here in the US, as well as in many other free countries.
Talking with the neighbors abot trimming it would probably be the best thing to do, for starters at least. If it's all on their property, you might ask about putting up a fence, or wall on the property line, so junior can only hit his head, instead of loosing an eye.
If the neighbors are jerks, you can still trim whatever part gets on your side, and put up a wall, fence, or less prickly bush on your side of the property line. After all, your child's eye is probably worth more than a fence, or the respect of your neighbors.
You might also be able to sick local authorities on them if it's blocking the sidewalk. Check your local laws on that one if talking won't help.
However, I'm a little worried about your kid. Thorns or no, it's not like a shrub can jump out and attack him, so what's he doing? Does he have seizures or something? is he old enough to know not to shove his face into a thorny hedge? Is he young enough to be put on one of those degrading child-leashes? Will he submit to wearing safety goggles, or a fencing mask when he's this close to the hedge?
I mean your neighbors aren't the only people in the world that will have hawthorn hedges that your son might get near...
Reply:Maybe you can ask the neighbors if they would mind if you trim it down. Maybe they don't like the hedge and would even appreciate an offer of help to remove it. :)

Does anyone know if it is safe to self-wean from Atenolol and if Hawthorn and garlic would be ok instead?
This is medicine for regulating your heart rate. You should not attempt to stop taking this without talking to your Dr. first. There may be drastic consequences.
In the late 70 & 80 who was the centre half forward for Hawthorn considered the best at the time?
%26amp; went on to coach the Brisbane Bears, now known as Brisbane lions. Also, what number did he wear? I guess is Peter Knights but I am not sure. Please help!
In the late 70 %26amp; 80 who was the centre half forward for Hawthorn considered the best at the time?
you have it all mixed up there.
peter knights was a centre half back, he did wear 24, he was an excellent player though, (he did play some games at c/h/f but the majority of games he was c/h/back. Ross Glenndinning, Malcom Blight, Paul Vanderhar, they were the best going around at that time along with knights, but as i said he was C/H/B.
(Royce Hart is considered to be the best of all time at c/h/f. some would say Carey but most who seen both play would say Roycey boy).
edit-louise, i added that bit in about royce hart because i felt like it, i miss read the question earlier to be honest, i thought it said 'of all time', why you had to ad he left tasmania is a mystery though, i think the majority of footy people would know that.
Reply:I'm not 100% sure and I don't know what Romper is on about either, Royce Hart left Tasmania to play for the Tigers, so I don't know why he was mentioned.
Reply:Peter Knights number 24 is the guy you're talking about
Then Dermott Brerton number 23
Reply:Are you getting mixed up with Carlton's Robert Walls?
He played a bit of CHF %26amp; went on to coach Brisbane.
Reply:Leigh Matthews - don't know his number but 3 came to mind when I thought of him playing.

Where can i find an tree or scrub called a scarlet thorn-berry or scarlet hawthorn ?
seen this tree in northport, mi it has beautiful dark red or burgandy flowers
Where can i find an tree or scrub called a scarlet thorn-berry or scarlet hawthorn ?
Crataegus laevigata...Scarlet Hawthorn, or English Hawthorn, or Paul's Scarlet, Now I know it doesn't answer the where to get one part of the question, but now you know the Latin, and some common names for the tree and i hope it makes talkingto the garden center folks easier!
Reply:Ellsberry,Mo. There is a nursery there I worked at years ago"15" and they did have them ,then. It still is going stronge and I am sure they still have them. They had ones there I never heard of. I don't know if they have a web site, they might!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:i would check some of the plant and flower companies, like spring hill or michigen bulb company, they have many trees and plants in there catalogs, to get them, punch up each name on search than go brouse through there on line catalog. hope this helps, good luck
Reply:I found the following link to help you narrow down the search...
Reply:local nursuries may have them, but you may call and ask them to order it for you, if they don't have it in stock. Also, local garden magazines which SELL plants may have them, but they are usually very small and take quite awhile to develop into a full sized plant. I would call your local nursery.
Reply:in a book
Reply:try your local shop, if they dont have it in stock sometimes they can order it for you
Reply:Internet
Reply:Try the Burpee's seed catalog. They sometimes have trees too.
Reply:Are you talking about Paul's Scarlet Hawthorn or Crataegus laevigata?
Your best bet for finding them locally would be to call your DNR (department of natural resources) office.
Reply:I looked by I cannot find any shrubs or trees by this name....there is a tree referred to as a Hawthorne tree but it does not fit the description that you stated....sorry hope someone is able to help you.....

Did anyone else notice the amputee referreing the hawthorn V Melbourne game?
Atleast, I assume he was an amputee, because he only used one arm all night!
Does anyone else agree that referee should be taken out in public and whipped?
Whats your honest opinion of umpires in the AFL at the moment?
Do you think they do a good job or would they be better off sitting in the stands with the fans? easy points here people!
Did anyone else notice the amputee referreing the hawthorn V Melbourne game?
When will people realise that a high or unequal free kick count means that one team was first to the ball more consistently than the other?
It happened to the Kangas last week against Geelong when the Roos were clearly the more inferior and unwilling side on the park, and it happened again last night when Hawthorn was consistently second to the ball, unwilling when it mattered and frustrated at both those facts.
There's no use blaming the umpires. Blame the players and those who prepare and motivate them.
Reply:I watched that game last night and the umpires did a good job. Yeah, I might be an umpire my self but I will still have a go at the guys in the AFL if they have a bad game. I still have a go at them when im watching a game.
Someone said above, the Kangaroos didnt win the game, the umps did. That is a load of crap. The Hawks went out there to target Brent Harvey. Even the comentators said that the Hawks were not playing the game, they were playing Brent Harvey.
I have seen it a lot myself as an umpire. When teams start focusing on another player, getting fustrated with them selves or start blaming an umpire, they lose the plot. I have umpired games thios season where teams could have won it but they were pre ocupied with taking out another player or abusing an umpire. Thats what Harthorn did, just focused on Brent Harvey.
Hawthorn had lots of chances. There were the same amount of opportunities for both teams when I was watching the game, and the Kangaroos took those chances with both hands and they now play Port in the Preliminary Finals.
I say good luck to all teams.
My predictions- Who will be there. Geelong v Port- Geelong win
Want there- Collingwood v Port- Pies to win
Reply:The umpires are the best there is. They do a better than adequate job.
What is the alternative to the current umpiring?
Reply:I did not se it but love the way you put the question,i had to look see what you were on about.Well done
Reply:Well I guess no one agrees with the umps all the time, but they try to be consistant and fair...although sometimes it doesnt seem that way. Sometimes its the position the ump is in and sometimes one team is just being really undisiplined. You gotta give the umps credit. they do alot for the game and if it werent for them then there would be no game, and if our team loses we wouldnt have anyone to blame and make ourselves feel better.
Reply:do u mean the kangas and hawks ?
if you do the umpiring was not fair at all !! whenever we got the ball kangas got a free for the most stupidest reason ! where are the fair umpires these days.
the kangas had 33 free kicks and hawks had 15
The umpires just wanted to keep the kangas in the game .
The kangas didn't win THE UMPIRES DID.

how many more games will he miss?
When will Hawthorn player Stuart Dew return from his hamstring injury?
The Hawks site says 2 weeks, but I don't think after a few years off Clarkson will put him back in, I don't think he'll be back for 3-4 weeks.

Reply:No, i don't think Hawthorn have what it takes this season to go all the way. While they have a few good stars, they also have too many skinny second tier players that can't compete with the variety that other sides have. I think they need another year at least.
I think West Coast will pull through again. They are just getting used to playing with a full midfield again, and with hansen back and the defence firming up again, it's the first time all year they are looking really damaging.
Reply:As much as it pains to say, Hawthorn wont be there this year I think Geelong will make it, and then there are a few teams all vying for the other spot. I do think Hawthorn are part of that group, but I don't think they will make it.

Reply:as the everyday hawks fan i do hope so, however as per usual with me the team i support will have a twist of fate and end up playing one bad game and be knocked out of the finals series n the semis round.
Actually you now see sam mitchell is brownlow fav?.. how cool is that been a while since the hawks have had a brownlow contender... sweet
Reply:I'd like to say yes, but I doubt it. Maybe next year. They are playing good footy, but from their game against the Kangaroos last week, I don't think that they are experienced enough to play in the GF. They will probably get to the prelim finals if they make top 4.

Reply:geel an brizzy lions
Reply:im not just saying this because i go for west coast but it will be a west coast geelong grand final
Reply:Bulldogs vs Hawthorn
Reply:Geelong v Port ( %26amp; Im not a supporter of either)
Geelong win by 12

What happened to Collingwood against Hawthorn today?
Did they just suffer their usual Colliwobbles as soon as a bit of pressure went on - or did they just fold %26amp; throw in the towel?
I didn't see the game but I was so glad to see the result that they got absolutely flogged.
I just love it when those girl's blouses cop a shellacking!

Collingwood do run hot %26amp; cold %26amp; it looks like they were cold yesterday.
And we all know what cold pies are like!
Reply:collingwood are normally an exitiing team to watch but the hawks were just far to good today... it was upsetting to see travis cloke and paul medhurst not being dominent on the score bord as they usually are... and without the big number 23 up there its goinbg to be harder for them to get alot of goals... also dale thomas didnt have a very good game and the hawks took the advantage of all of the collingwood losses...?!!
Reply:Collingwood just really suck this year. they all have diseases and all they really care about is staying pretty and not sweating up a storm. i dont know how they are still in the top 8 with their disarsterous game. Didak was no-were to be seen throughout the match, making like two appearances. Medhhurst played good last week coz he wanted a medal, Thomas was probably shitting himself thinking that the nasty shark was guna get him, wakelin was just too tired, Brown was scared of Franklin, Burns was so not in form, Cloke was running away from the ball every time it got near him and Heath Shaw couldnt kick! Lockyer, Pendlebury, Swan and O'bree were the best on field that day. everyone else SUCKED! i ask myself this- WHY AM I A COLLINGWOOD SUPPORTER!? Boo Hoo!
Reply:They got stitched up pretty bad, hey. It's always hard to tell how collingwood are going to go because of the media talking them up every year but i really don't think they are too flash this year, hawthorn are the real deal though, that's for sure, made my mind up today, changed up a gear and it was over in a flash.
Reply:Hawthorn were just too good
I luv watching the Collingwood supporters when they get flogged. Unfortunately they didn't show Eddie but they did show the guy without his crappy jacket.
Reply:I don't know.
But whatever happened Mick Malthouse will have several reasons %26amp; excuses outlining how Collingwood were hard done by.
Reply:The Hawks are just a far FAR better team than Collingwood and out played them all day, i just cant get the the Roster that the Cats and Hawks dont play each other to Round 17
Reply:Hawthorn were just to good and Collingwood don't have Franklin
Reply:The Hawks just outplayed the Pies
Im so over the Pies being hot and cold, they need some consistency atm *sigh*
Reply:Colliewobbles
Reply:You and me both!
Hawks are just the better team by far.
Reply:they folded just like the nth qld cowboys did last week against the storm
Reply:I Dunno.
And I don' care.....as long as Collingwoog got flogged.
Reply:there's a simple answer for this question...
