What will be the most exciting game of the year ?
This year, teams have stepped up, the AFL is getting bigger and better but their will be some exciting games, which ones will be the most exciting, i would think,
Geelong vs Hawthorn,
Sydney vs Kangaroos,
Adelaide vs Port Adelaide,
and West Coast and Freo.
What will be the most exciting game of the year ?
Port vs the Crows, yes it is a herritage match, but we all know who will win, but, West Coast vs Freo has too be a pleaser, could even be a tie, Sydney vs the Kangas, yes that match is coming up in round 6 this week, im goinna say Swans 102 and kangas 86, but will turn in the third quarter i think.
This game will show us a grand final preview, but will not show us the score of the big one, if hawks do beat the cats, it wont show how the grandfinal will end up, same thing happened last year, Port beat Geelong by one goal, i think the biggest match this year will happen too be the grand final.
Reply:Geelong vs Collingwood at the G in a month or two. Someone has to stop the Cats and the Pies are a chance. If anyone else does it, the game will be played in front of 40,000. If the Pies do it, it will be in front of 98,000. If the Cats win that one and remain undefeated at that time, they will be heralded the greatest team for a long, long time.
Reply:The GRAND FINAL, i hope.
The last two games have already taken place mate, and they weren't that exciting, the ad/port one was good though, plenty of tough old days footy.
Syd/kangs is this week, we'll see if it is exciting, the other one should be a real shootout i hope.(geel/hawks)
Reply:Definetly Geelong vs Hawks
Collingwood vs Essendon
Victoria vs All stars
Kangas vs Collingwood rematch
Geelong vs Bull Dogs
Reply:Collingwood vs Essendon - Anzac Day
Reply:Geelong VS Hawthorn....two top teams playing...it'll be like a preview of the grand final.....I'm a proud doggies supporter though....
WOOOOHOOOO!!...GO TEH DOGS!!!

Why does everyone hate hawthorn heights?
and give me real reasions not their music sucks or they dress bad. tell me why they bother you. their lyrics are just an expression they dont really want you to cut your rists. do some resarch!so that eliminates that answer. and they are not posers if you think they are whats your proof what makes them posers? in my book they are awsome and i hope they keep makeing awsome music.
Why does everyone hate hawthorn heights?
You pretty much eliminated the reasons why people would hate any band just because you don't agree with those reasons.
If their music isn't what people like to listen to then what do you expect people to do? What kind of answer are you really looking for? "Hawthorne Heights rules!"? I happen to know they don't.
Reply:I don't hate them but i don't like them. Now...all there music sounds the same, sure the lyrics are not bad but i like something that sounds good and keeps me entertained, I can't tell one hawthorn heights song from the other, change the toon people.
posers:
that is what we call bands like simple plan, good Charlotte, hawthorn heights etc they have there own little genre that is not made yet so..there not pop, rock or anything else, It looks/sounds like there trying to be punk/rock but not quite making it, so we call them poser. but one day they will have there own genre because they do have fans.
Reply:i only like the song saying sorry. theyre okay but just not my style.
Reply:theyre awesome.
i think people hate them because they think theyre too emo im not sure cause i like the band
good luck
Reply:no clue. i haven't really heard a lot of their music. my sister is a huge fan and says they're one of her favorite bands.

What ethnicity is Lance "Buddy" Franklin? (AFL Player - Hawthorn)?
I agree, Buddy Franklin is Indiginous. I just want to know when he is changing his stripes and moving down the highway to Geelong.
Of course I am greedy. I hope Geelong doesn't stuff up and not be a contender for 2008 in September.

funny tho, one mentions the drugs, must be all forgotten. wonder what is happening about that, if it was true and it has gotten him off them then how good will he be this year, i wouldn't call him a star, but certainly a star of the future. consistency is the key with buddy boy.

anyone born in Australia is, according to the dictionary definition, indigenous, and many Aussies have a lot of different national origins in one person - do we want to say one eighth Spanish, one eighth Chinese etc?
he is a good footballer, some of which may have come from inherited talent but lots more from encouragement and development.

Where can I see What school supplies I need for this school year?
You should try calling the school and ask someone in the office if there is a special list of supplies for the 7th grade. They should have given it to you at the end of the school year or should be mailing it to you. If not, go to Staples. They usually have a general supply list for each grade.

How do you prune hawthorns?
I have a few hawthorns that I want to prune and reshape. When is the best time to prune and what can be cut off?
How do you prune hawthorns?
This slow-growing native North American tree reaches a height of 30 feet with a rounded canopy that spreads to 35 feet or more.
Prune back shoots to the first two leaves as necessary. Hawthorn grows quickly and needs constant pruning to keep under control. The best time for major branch pruning is before the leaves come in, as the intricate structure of the branches may be clearly viewed. Remove faded fruits and flowers

Who will win Hawthorn or West coast?
West coast will lose against The Crows and Hawthorn will win against Collingwood.
Who will win Hawthorn or West coast?
West Coast will get back there form in the 2nd quarter I think and will win the game.
Reply:Well... that game was played in round 9, the indigenous round, where our captain-for the day Wirrpanda was a Hawks fan growing up and their captain-for-the day was an Eagles supporter, which was funny. I missed most of the game, but the scores were drawn at half-time with 5.6 (36), but we were playing badly and of course out plague of inaccuracy, so despite having the same number of scoring shots, the final score was Hawthorn 15.9 (99) def West Coast 8.16 (64). I was most upset.
Reply:Just a guess but bad luck with the Dees and Daniher on fri.
West Coast arent versing the Hawks this week.
But if you mean the Premiership its the Mighty West all the way, and they will win against the Crows on Sunday as well.

What is a good herbal remedy for atherosclerosis?
I have Artherosclerosis of the heart arteries "plaquing" My cholesterol level is 103 LDL43 HDL34 I need to know how to get rid of the plaque thats already in my arteries.I've been told there's some herbs that can help me.One formula is 4 parts european mistle toe,4 parts hawthorn ,1 part valerian root and 1 part shave grass.soak 1 TBSP of mixture in half cup of cold water for 8 hrs.Drink half cup a day, space the half cup into 3 doses a day.I cant find anything on the herbs form, tablet, liquid, raw, however it comes and I cant find anything on european mistle toe or shave grass.
What is a good herbal remedy for atherosclerosis?
Some herbal remedies have a beneficial action on the arteries, reducing build-up of plaque and perhaps helping to remove existing deposits. Herbs will be prescribed according to individual diagnosis and the symptom pattern. Description and action of the herbs used for cardiovascular health are given elsewhere.
Garlic has blood-thinning qualities. It also helps reduce high cholesterol levels.
Siberian ginseng tea reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Hawthorn leaves and blossoms reduce cholesterol levels.
Calendula strengthens, regulates and calms the heart and improve circulation.
Alfalfa leaf juice and the silica in horsetail maintain the elastic, connective tissue of the arteries and preserve their permeability.
Alfalfa meal in large amounts also lowers cholesterol because of its saponin content.
Lemon balm tea relaxes and calms the nerves.
Gugulipid, an extract of the mukul myrrh tree native to India, helps reduce both cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Cayenne (capsicum) lowers cholesterol and inhibits platelet aggregations by dilating arteries. Many angina sufferers report a remarkable improvement in their chest pain and circulation with regular supplementation of cayenne.
Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory agent as well as an antioxidant.
Forskolin, a derivative of the herb Coleus forskohlii, is a good natural bronchoditator. Forskolin has therapeutic effects in the treatment of high blood pressure, congestive heart disease and glaucoma. It helps improve circulation due to its vasoditating effects.
Herbal Combination:
Combine lime blossom, hawthorn berries (Crataegus) and/or mistletoe (Viscum album) in equal parts and make a tea from this mixture. Drink this tea two to three times daily
Reply:I wouldnt want to try that concoction of herbs, especially as mistletoe is poisonous!;
Reply:try increasing your hdl's even higher, that may help somewhat in reducing the plaque buildup - aim for higher than 50-60 ..usually high doses of Niacin (500-2000mg) helps (though high doses like that need liver monitoring)
Reply:hawthorn-prevent plaque buildup in the arteries.
elderberry-reduces cholesterol
alfalfa-reduces cholesterol (also helps with fatigue)
chromium-decreases blood lipids (fat)
these are just a few. also may want to increase your fiber intake
to assist the colon with cleaning.
Reply:Are you kidding us? You are one in 300,000,000. It is unheard of to have atherosclerosis with cholesterol of 103!! See your MD. He will write your case up in the Medical literature as a first. Maybe you have a genetic lethal gene for bad cholesterol!!

Did Nathaniel Hawthorn ever refer to himself as "the old man"?
Not from what I can tell.
"The Old Man" is in reference to "The Old Man of the Mountain", or "The Great Stone Face", it's a natural rock formation in New Hampshire. Nathaniel Hawthorne used this as inspiration for a short story.

At what stage of the season did Carlton start tanking, last year?
Former player %26amp; coach Ken Judge, (ex Hawthorn - WCE coach,) in todays weekly newspaper column has suggested that Fremantle Dockers should start tanking now.
He's suggested they have no finals prospects this year %26amp; they should throw out the anchor now in order that they finish bottom to get a quality draft choice.
He's says they need to stock up on youngsters because they have too many old codgers in their current team. I was just wondering when Carlton decided on doing the same last season.
At what stage of the season did Carlton start tanking, last year?
They do have to many old old slow people on their team.
They need to start blooding more peopel like garrick iborherson and maine and all the other young ones.
Reply:According to Tony Libaratore it was about three quarters of the way through the home %26amp; away games season, when Carlton started tanking.
By the look of Fremantles form this season it looks like they started about six weeks ago!
Reply:I don't know if they did or didn't.
But it was an interesting article in the newspaper as to what Judge said. At the end of each season. now, there will be claims of lowewr ranked teams tanking.
Reply:Hmm, weren't carlton found 'not guilty' for tanking last year?

Why does it benefit when we cut down the foreign plants and plant back the native plants?
For example, there is a lot of Buckthorn in the Midwest states where Buckthorn is originated in Europe. Why do we need to cut down the foreign plants and plant back the native plants like Hawthorn to the Midwest climate. What is the benefit and advantage?
Why does it benefit when we cut down the foreign plants and plant back the native plants?
Sometimes non-native plants take over the landscape. They will grow so strongly and wildly that the native plants, that naturally do well, will be killed off. The key word is naturally. For example, coneflower in Wisconsin is a native plant. They have proven themselves to grow best here and are considered native because they HAVE survived so many years here. If a plant comes along that can temporarily do well here, takes over and kills off the coneflower (and other natives), but then during a really hot summer or way below zero winter dies off, there would be nothing left eventually.
Reply:There are several reasons that this is a benefit, but, arguably, the main one is that often the native animals are "used to" the native plant. In other words, they are usually "better off" with the native plants. So, if you preserve the native plants, you will preserve the native animals better.

Why is the may flower on the hawthorn so pink this year?
Flowers which change color often do so based upon the acid or base content of the soil.
This might be the situation in your case.

Any hawthorn supporters here?
Im a hawthorn supporterjustwondering if there are any on yahoo answers. How do you think the boys are going this year , im so proud of them :).
Any hawthorn supporters here?
no but i hope they do well
Reply:I'm not a hawks supporter , but I wish them good luck.
Reply:not a hawks suporter, although i have seen them gain alot more consistency this year (i am unsure they can win it but they will gain from the experience) they will be a side to look at for the next few years
Reply:I am not a Hawthorn supporter as such, just a FOOTBALL supporter, and"funnily", often accussed of being associated to Collingwood .lol. Up to this point of the season you have every reason to feel proud of your Hawks. They have only used 25 players on a regular basis, so you can only hope injuries dont cause them any grief as the finals draw near. Mitchell, Lewis Sewell Hodge and Guerra have been excellent standout players, while the next group Birchall Young Crawford Gilham and McGlynn are also not far off the pace. Franklin has disappointed since his 9 goals , but thats obviously the oppossition planning working against him. Hawk supporters must also be delighted with the form of Boyle, who has been a consistent performer all season .

How do you make Hawthorn gum then? Tell me?
Hawthorn Gum is made form the berries of the hawthorn tree..It is a simple recipe. Collect the ripe berries from the tree and crush, mash them in a container.. This will release the the pips.. Then remove the pips..Press and leave to set and dry out.. That is it.. It will last a long time and will provide essential nutrients.
Note this is a herb for heart tonic, the flowers and berries of the hawthorn plant were used in traditional medicine to treat irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, chest pain, hardening of the arteries, and heart failure. Hawthorn is commonly used to strengthen the heart.

Wat is the scientific name for a washington hawthorn?
Crataegus phaenopyrum, Washington hawthorn
Wat is the scientific name for a washington hawthorn?
That would be: Crataegus Phaenopyrum
Reply:Washington Hawthorn
(or Washington Thorn)
Scientific Name: Crataegus phaenopyrum (formally known as C. cordata)
Other Common Names: Virginia or Maple-leaved Hawthorn
Summary
Foliage: Deciduous broadleaf
Height: 20 to 35 feet
Spread: 20 to 25 feet
Shape: Rounded or pyramidal
This is the largest of the hawthorns. Generally grows into a pyramidal or rounded form. It flowers later than other hawthorns, producing clusters of white flowers with yellowish pink anthers. The bark is light brown that starts off thin and smooth and becomes scaly. Leaves are 2 inches long and almost 2 inches wide. The leaves emerge bronze, but quickly become green. Produces small, clusters of fruit in the early autumn that turn deep red by late autumn. Leaves turn a burgundy fall color.
Plant Needs
Zone: 5 to 9
Light: Full sun
Moisture: Wet to moist
Soil Type: Well-drained, but tolerant of poor soils
Care
Fertilize with formulations that promote woody, strong growth rather than excessive foliar growth. Avoid excessive exposure to salts (either road or sea salt).
Problems
Prone to rust diseases such as Cedar Hawthorn Rust and Cedar Quince Rust. Flowers can be extremely malodorous. Thorns can be a safety hazard. Does not tolerate road salt.
Notes
Crataegus means 'strength', referring to the strong wood and phaenopyrum means 'with the appearance of a pear'.

Hawthorn Bushes?
What can i plant with Hawthorne bushes to try and elimanate the prickles????
Hawthorn Bushes?
Oooo. I'm trying to get rid of the *%26amp;%$ hawthorn on my property. It grows like a weed and self propogates with the voracity of rabbits. Don't get me wrong here though, i like these things. It's just that the endless thorny trimmings are very difficult to get rid of. (I have about two cubic yards of trimmings left over from last year and, of course, the hawthorns are currently gushing new branches....)
Reply:dig them out, other than this don't get rid of the needle like thorns they do help to protect the home if you have planted them in the right place
Reply:If I am reading this right, you want to plant something next to an existing hawthorn (Crataegus) to create a 'buffer' between yourself and the thorns?
Firstly, there are thornless cultivars of hawthorn, that might be a nice combination. If not that, consider serviceberry (Amelanchier) or Viburnum (Viburnum opulus, or V. plicatum var. tomentosum).
I hope that this helps
Good luck-
Reply:Do you mean in a hedge, or a free-standing group ? You can never eliminate Hawthorn `prickles`, but you can plant other small trees and shrubs alongside Hawthorn as a `mixed hedge`, Ligustrum, Hazel, Beech, Yew, Box, Laurel. If it is a specimen tree, standing alone, throw a net over it and plant several `species` Clematis to smother the effect..
Reply:Beech hedging or privet.
Reply:Companion plants to buffer you from accidentally impaling yourself??
Consider an informal grouping of compact, dwarf shrubs or thornless plants to surround your thorny dilemma. There are thornless roses like Zephirine Drouhin who is also blessed with a raspberry fragrance. Another with a strong clove fragrance is 'Midnight Blue' a very dark, velvety purple blossom on a small shrub rose.
Small and soft are the Japanese spireas. They form soft mounds of vivid color that range from lime to red tipped gold.
For spring fragrance the Maddenii group of rhododendrons have madrone-like bark, lush foliage, and clusters of waxy, exotically-perfumed, Easter lily-like blossoms. "Mi Amor" is the one of a group of cultivars developed from this species.
An amusing choice might be a soft holly Ilex crenata 'Soft Touch' with flexible branches bearing pointless, lustrous, evergreen leaves.
What about a soft cloud of ornamental grass like Sporobolus heterolepis Prairie Dropseed. Arching green blades that bloom in late summer. If nothing else you have a comfy, pliant plant to console yourself with after the hawthorn has perforated you again.
Reply:You can plant hawthorn and privet alternate and you will have a ever green hedge with very few prickles .

Is this a hawthorn?
I'm terrible at identification... I live in Northern Utah and there is a fairly widespread tree that to me looks like it could be a type of hawthorn. It has toothed broad leaves that are wide in the middle, with pinnate veins. The flowers are small, white, and in flat sort of clusters, while the fruit is a sort of pale red, like very tiny apples (size of a large bead, maybe). The bark is rather rough with a faint reddish tinge, and the spikes, which are set at about two inches apart on the branches, are straight rather than curved. I see these all the time. I saw a picture of a hawthorn before and it kinda reminded me of these trees, but I know that there are several varieties. Anyone know what this could be?
Is this a hawthorn?
Hawthorns are in the rose family and have many stamens. Check these. Send pic. Google (images) Hawthorns Utah (Also genus Crataegus).
The pics you sent could be a Crataegus(I've not seen one with such lanceolate lvs).
Suggestion: Google Utah university botany sites and send them a pic. (P.S.: Could be a hybrid) (Close-up of flower might help.)
Reply:It sounds like a hawthorn (Crateagus), the leaves are quite variable between species.........
There are several *dozen* species of Crataegus in Utah alone, without a picture, I couldn't be more specific...

Hawthorn wood in fish tanks?
can you use hawthorn wood safely in tropical fish tanks?
Hawthorn wood in fish tanks?
It's not practical , it floats, it leeches tannins into the water, if it has bark on it would create an algae bloom.
Before you stick anything in a tank as the cheaper option, all the trial and error was done by somebody else donkey's years ago. If it worked we would all be using it?
Wood for fish tank use contains significant amounts of lignum; hawthorn contains too much semi cellulose which in any water rots, but in warm water faster.
Reply:Nope..

How do you make Hawthorn blacmange as described by Ray Mears?
I presume you would use the juice of the hawthorn berries. The leaves used to be infused to make poor mans tea. One should careful when using the berries of the hybrid of plants because some are more toxic than others.
The hawthorn was used to treat a variety of heart diseases.

How do i get rid of a hawthorn tree?
If you don't like the answer provided in the link I have found this method works well with removing unwanted trees and shrubs.
1) Cut the tree down to a main stump.
2) Paint the stump with a strong herbicide such as Round-up, but do not dilute it.
3) Cover about 1-inch of the edge of the stump with wax to seal in the round-up and to discourage new growth forming from the top of the stump.

Dunno, this could be a close game......but I'm tipping Buddy to kick another bag, and the Hawks to win by 27 points......and the Perth media to attack Freo in a newspaper-selling frenzy

Hawks have a better list. Hawks by 20.

Reply:Very hard to say! Value bet is either team under 15.5 points. A draw is as possible in this game as any other this season.
Reply:They have a very good chance if the Hawks get about 22 injured players
Reply:Yes I think they will but I wouldn't bet my house on it.

Hawthorn should win by 4 goals

Are Hawthorn spikes poisonous ?
I got one in my knuckle today and it has swollen up big time.
I know the thorn isn't in there, but I'm wondering could I have an allergic reaction to it ?
Are Hawthorn spikes poisonous ?
No its not poisonous but the sweling might be due to the prick itself

To Aussies...what time does the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game finish?
Going to the game tomorrow night at Telstra Dome and it starts at 5.10 pm. It is the first night game I have been to in a long time. What time should it finish? Trying to figure out what train I will be on to come home
To Aussies...what time does the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game finish?
Hi Rachel,
I'm answering this at your request.
I'm sorry, I don't know what time the game will finish. It all depends on how often the clock is st oped.
My hubby said that you need to allow 3 hours at telstra dome, and an extra 15 minutes to get out.
Luckily, southern cross station is right near telstra dome and it won't take long to get there.

Can you tell me anything about the Indian hawthorn -do they have thorns?
I bought some and know their height and that they have a white bloom -Does anyone know if they have thorns and if they stay green in the winter time?
Can you tell me anything about the Indian hawthorn -do they have thorns?
they do not have thorns because they are considered to be a shrub, and their leaves turn purplish in the winter, but the cold can damage them sometimes. i hope that helped.
Reply:Indian hawthorne, or Raphiolepsis indica, does not have thorns. They should stay green throughout the winter. Indian hawthorne are notorious for getting entomosporium leaf spot. This isn't really a horrible disease for this plant. It will typicaly grow out of it, provided the conditions for fungal growth are removed.
Reply:In the south indian hawthorne are evergreen. They do not have thorns, however they are prone to leaf spot and the deer will eat them to the root.
Reply:No they don't have thorns but they do have berries that birds love. Mine are fine all year long, but I live in Florida.
Reply:Yes they are zone 8 and south, they will stay evergreen easily sheared, and deer love them. No thorns

No thorns

Mildew infection in young hawthorn - HELP !!!!?
I recently planted a hawthorn hedge and I've noticed some of the plants are covered in a powdery mildew-like substance. What is the best thing to treat these with as the ones infected are not thriving and I'm worried about this problem spreading.
Mildew infection in young hawthorn - HELP !!!!?
You will undoubtedly get many responses to this question. My first question to you would be why have you not questioned the person you bought them from!
The next steps are going to take more labor and money than it cost to buy the plants. You are going to need to purchase a hand-held sprayer, a set of pruning shears, a one gallon bucket, a quart of Clorox Bleach, some basic granular 10-10-10 with minerals fert, and enough Shred Cypress Mulch to cover the entire area with 2".
Frankly, I would return the product to the supplier, however, once in and liked you do as you wish.
If you spread any mulch after you planted the hedge remove it entirely and immediately. This could be the source of your problem. Half fill a bucket with warm water and use about 1/2cup/gallon of Clorox Bleach in the bucket. Take the pruning shears and cut from the base to six inches any and all limbs. After each cut dip the shears in the clorox solution bucket. Wear Rubber or Latex Gloves!
One school of thought, which may be appropriate for you, is to use a true sponge and wipe off the leaves with the Ivory Soap solution. Since this is a hedge and not a houseplant that does not seem practicle. Mix 1 Tbls. of Pure Ivory Soap Dish Detergent per Gallon of water. Spray the top of the leaves, the base of the plantings, and the underside of the leaves. I suggest you change gloves before beginning this operation. You can prune at anytime, however, do the Ivory Spray early in the morning only!!!
Spread the basic fert and lightly water it in. If by hand make sure the majority goes outside the dripline of the hedge plant to promote root growth. If using a spreader it is great for turf and flower beds, etc. Let the soil settle and dry.
The Cyp. Mulch is a great mold and insect material. It is a bit costly, however, so were your plants! At two inches you should be rid of powder and black mold spores. Feed the plants six weeks later (over the mulch) and water both times for an extended period of time to allow the fert to reach the root zone (4-6") Good Luck. Let me know if it works. I am at gjgjobs@yahoo.com.
Reply:While not disagreeing with anything Jerry said, things may not be too bad. Hawthorns are pretty hardy and will probably pull through. You could try spaying with fungicide, (copper if you're organic), and feed the hedge well to "beef it up".
Are you sure that it's mildew? It could be wooly aphid, in which case you need to brush them off with a paint-brush and methylated spirit.
Hope this helps.
Reply:After reading jerry g's answer you must be panicking, don't
spray with either-
Bio systhane
bio fungus fighter
sulphur dust(vitax green or yellow sulphur)
Plus there are many more fungicides for powdery mildew.
Don't worry its easy to control if you spray with a good fungicide.
If you need anymore advice on this feel free to email me.

Do Hawthorn berries have stones?
I bought some dried hawthorn berries and expected them to be like rose hips. Instead they each have one large stone inside which surprised me, as somewhere I read that they have 4 seeds inside each berry. Have I really got hawthorn berries??

To Aussies...what time does the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game finish?
Going to the game tomorrow night at Telstra Dome and it starts at 5.10 pm. It is the first night game I have been to in a long time. What time should it finish? Trying to figure out what train I will be on to come home
To Aussies...what time does the Collingwood vs Hawthorn game finish?
Each 1/4 is around 20minutes long and it also depends on time on, which can take it out to 25 minutes so Im guessing if you count the breaks and half time break it will be at least 2 and a half hours. At the latest 3hrs.
Hope this helps and GO THE PIES!

I had a thorn from a hawthorn tree stuck in a vein inbetween my fingers, my hand is really swelled, toxic?
Absolutly not. If within the next 24 hours you become nauseated - fluish- see a Dr (but thats only in the likelyhood of a one in a million "contaminated thorn" lol).
Soak your hand in apple cider vinegar for an hour and take one Cayanne Fruit capsule (wal-mart).
Should be up and good afterwards~

I believe that the cause of the swelling is not a toxic, but rather an infectious process. You need to be treated with antibiotics, and if the infection will evolve into an abscess - it will have to be incised and drained. (I assume that you have extracted the thorn... If not - do it immediately). Once the infection of that type starts it virtually never goes away on its own. See a dr to get an antibiotic and a tetanus injection.
hope it helps
Reply:Is it red? best get to doctor for a tetanus jab as if its poisoned you it could spread up your arm. best get it seen to you may even have a small piece left in there!!

Information on pruning and re planting hawthorn busehes?
actually to the other answer, it is salix (willow for those that dont know there latin) that are self propergating plants and will grow when just stuck in the ground. Crateagus monogynya (hawthorn) the ideal time to prune hawthorn is once the fruit has been eaten by resident birds and other garden wildlife, but before early spring. Most forms require minimal pruning, other than the removal of broken, diseased or crossing branches. Encourage them to form a single-leader standard tree by removing lower branches as the tree matures until there is a clear trunk about 2m high. Alternatively, cut back a recently planted hawthorn to encourage it to produce a multi-stemmed tree ideal for use in a naturalistic planting or wild area of the garden..

Information on pruning and re planting hawthorn busehes?
About this time of year cut them right down, about 6 inches, dig them up and plant them where you want them. Alternatively take the cuttings and stick them in the ground where you want them.
Reply:Hawthorn and blackthorn are virtually impossible to kill! They don't particularly need pruning - just cut them to the shape you want. If you dig them up and move them, they don't seem to mind. (The experts recommend you do this in the winter) If you cut a bit off and stick it in the ground it will root.

I haven't but, try this...
A lot of locations will provide references for you if you ask.
Ask them if they would put you in touch with somebody who recently had a wedding or other party there. Then, you can ask them how it was....

Does the hawthorn tree hold religious significance?
My husband bought and planted a hawthorn tree in our yard for our anniversary several years ago. I've seen hawthorn referenced in several books about herbs and plants, but the information is conflicting. Do you know about this tree?
Thanks.
Does the hawthorn tree hold religious significance?
it could be a spark for a short story about a cursed seed that was stolen from the african jungle, that ends up on someone's front lawn and has to be returned before...

Christian legend holds that the “Crown of Thorns” that was placed on the Head of Jesus when he was Crucified was made from the hawthorn berry tree.
There is also religious significance for the Dogwood tree. If you will examine the spring bloom, it is in the shape of a cross. There are small rust looking spots on each of the petals. Christian legend says the spots on the blooms represent the blood Jesus shed on the cross.

Why is a hawthorn strainer so called?
dunno..................
Why is a hawthorn strainer so called?
i've looked all over the place but can't find an answer for you my best guess would be the name of the person who invented it
Reply:The Hawthorn strainer is flat and circular with a handle and several flat stabilising prongs coming out of the rim. It has a metal spring around it's rim that will roll inward slightly to fit inside a glass. The circular rim of the strainer need not be touching the rim of the glass, as the spring inside will filter out the ice.
Perhaps it had this name because someone called Hawthorn invented it
Reply:I've hunted, and all I can guess is that it is a name for a particular type of strainer, probably manufactured originally by Hawthorn(e)
Like a Hersheys chocolate bar, or a Cadbury's chocolate bar

What is the hawthorn effect and the practice effect. Can you give examples of each?
1) "Hawthorn Effect"
By Kendra Van Wagner, About.com
Filed In:
1. Psychology Dictionary
2. %26gt; H Index
Definition: A term referring to the tendency of some people to work harder and perform better when they are participants in an experiment. Individuals may change their behavior due to the attention they are receiving from researchers rather than because of any manipulation of independent variables.
This effect was first discovered and named by researchers at Harvard University who were studying the relationship between productivity and work environment. Researchers conducted these experiments at the Hawthorn Plant of Western Electric and found that productivity increased due to attention from the research team and not because of changes to the experimental variable.
2) Ptactice Effect
Practice effects refer to gains in scores on cognitive tests that occur when a person is retested on the same instrument, or tested more than once on very similar ones. These gains are due to the experience of having taken the test previously; they occur without the examinee being given specific or general feedback on test items, and they do not reflect growth or other improvement on the skills being assessed. Such practice effects denote an aspect of the test itself, a kind of systematic, built-in error that is associated with the specific skills the test measures. These effects relate to the test's psychometric properties, and must therefore be understood well by the test user as a specific aspect of the test's reliability. Retesting occurs fairly commonly in real circumstances for reasons such as mandatory school reevaluations, longitudinal research investigations, unwitting or deliberate duplication by different professionals who are evaluating the same individual, a parent's or teacher's insistence that a child be retested because the test scores imply that the child was not trying, and so forth. A keen understanding of differential practice effects facilitates competent interpretation of test score profiles in those instances in which people are retested on the same or a similar instrument, perhaps several times.
No specific length of time between tests is required to study practice effects; it depends on the generalization sought or needed
What is the hawthorn effect and the practice effect. Can you give examples of each?
Ok, the Hawthorne (with an 'e') effect describes a temporary change to behavior or performance in response to a change in the environmental conditions, with the response being typically an improvement. The term was coined in 1955 by Henry Landsberger when analyzing older experiments from 1924-1932 at the Hawthorne Works (outside Chicago). Landsberger defined the Hawthorne effect as:
a short-term improvement caused by observing worker performance.
Earlier researchers had concluded the short-term improvement was caused by teamwork when workers saw themselves as part of a study group or team. Others have broadened the definition to mean that people's behavior and performance change following any new or increased attention. Hence, the term Hawthorne effect no longer has a specific definition.
In short it means you work better when your boss is watching or when your working in part of a team.
Ok now the Practice effect, it refers to gains in scores on exams that Practice effect refers to gains in scores on exams that occur when a person is retested on the same instrument or tested more than once on very similar ones. These gains are due to the experience of having taken the exam previously; they occur whether or not the examinee was given specific or general feedback on exam items, and they do not reflect growth or other improvement on the skills being assessed.

Sick hawthorn?
I have an ornalental pink-flowering hawthorn growing in my lawn. It is approximately 10 years old and normally is very healthy with loads of flowers in early summer but this year the poor thing is not looking at all well. It had no flowers and the leaves are very scarce compared to normal and look a bit yellowish.
I put a mulch ring around the tree a few weeks ago but no sign of improvement. I had some very well rotted manure mixed into the compost. Do you think the tree is lacking nutrients and if so, how do I best provide these? I really want this tree to survive as it was the last tree my grandmother planted before she died.
Sick hawthorn?
The best advice I could give you is to try the plant pest and disease identifier on the bbc gardening website.

I have had lots of problems in my garden this year which I don't recognise and I think it's something to do with the weather. Not the weather itself necessarily but the weather affecting which bugs are thriving and which aren't. I haven't seen as many aphids as I would have expected but there are plenty of other problems.
One thing I'd recommend to everyone is the PAN-UK site which gives you a page on Least-Toxic Pest Control Solutions and Products www.pan-uk.org/Projects/Local/alt~dir/a~...
and some really good monthly gardening tips sheets emailed to you every month www.pan-uk.org/Info/gardening.htm

Ohio is for lovers
Hey there,
I know it's hard to feel like I don't care at all.
Where you are and how you feel.
With these lights off as these wheels
keep rolling on and on. (and on and on and on...)
Slow things down or speed them up.
Not enough or way too much. (and on and on and on...)
How are you when I'm gone?
[Chorus:]
And I can't make it on my own.
(And I can't make it on my own.)
Because my heart is in Ohio.
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
(Cut my wrists and black my eyes)
So I can fall asleep tonight, or die.
Because you kill me.
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.
Spare me just three last words.
"I love you" is all she heard.
I'll wait for you, but I can't wait forever.
[x2]
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.
(YOU...KILL...ME...WELL)
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
My final breath is gone
So I can fall asleep tonight

Does anyone know the lyrics to hawthorn heights song that starts with ohio?
[x2]

Is Hawthorn tea consider to be a Green tea ?
No. Hawthorn tea is made from the berries of the Hawthorn tree. It is used to strengthen the heart muscle and has been known to prevent arrhythmia. It would be called an herb tea or "tisane."
"Green Tea" is from the same plant as black tea - camelia sinensis. The leaves are picked and dried without any fermentation, so they're still green. Black tea is first fermented, then dried, so it turns dark brown or black. Both have caffeine and antioxidants and tannins. Both have a mild diuretic effect.
Is Hawthorn tea consider to be a Green tea ?
Hawthorn Tea is okay as is Green Tea,
but Chamomile is better than both Teas.
Reply:Read this article on Green tea. I hope you find all your answers here.
Reply:no not as in the popular "green tea" that is high in anti-oxidants ;)

Has anyone who has stayed at the Hawthorn Suites Desert Rose in Las Vegas confirm or deny whether the suites have stoves? I looked at their website and expedia and they just mentioned they have a kitchenette, fridges and microwaves, and I haven't come across any pictures that actually show the kitchen area....

Which one of the following words best descibes goodman brother at the end of hawthorn's story?
There are no "following words" after your question.
I'm assuming you mean Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown."
As I recall:
'Recluse' might best describe Brown at the end of the story.

Good choice

Is hawthorn good for hedging?
Yes but remember its not evergreen and ofcourse has lots of thorns. If you want an all year round screen then go for Pyracantha, which is very similar but evergreen or for even more colour Photinia Red Robin.
Reply:Yes ! It is slow growing and once established you get blossom and nice red berries, trim it so it's wider at the bottom than at the top so it won't be bare above the roots, it's hardy and needs very little attention, and is recommended by the police and insurance companies as a good intruder deterrent.
Reply:yes
its hardy and grows well
also thorny so gives a bit of protection
Reply:yes very much so.....here is a site for you to look at...it will help you to decide which type of hawthorne you want to get......

good luck with your choice.....
Reply:Absolutely perfect!
The Crataegus Monogyna suits most soils, blossoms well and great as an autumnal food source for birdlife. Its thorny presence will also deter intruders but will need trimming to maintainits elegant appearance
Reply:It creates an effective physical barrier when established and looks great in spring but is bare throughout the winter. Would you consider mixing in a few hollies or the odd yew so there are patches of foliage all year?
Reply:yes it is , it's spiky branches will keep out all unwanted visitors. just be carefull when you trim it.
Reply:Yes, but it's thorns are vicious!
Reply:Mix it with beech and it will keep all undesirables at bay and be nice on the eye
Reply:Forms a great hedge -I know I once went head first through one after coming off a motorcycle. Bit prickly though
Reply:yes it is.
Reply:looses leaves in winter , pretty flowers in may , berries in autumn , and jolly prickly - keeps the sheep and other intruders out . getting a bit late to plant - but ok for week or two . ones self would trim roots and stems by about a third . and don't give them any compost - they like it rough ! give roots 24hr soaking b4 planting.

Is the hawthorn berry good for arrythmia?
If you have a problem with the steady beating of your heart, see a cardiologist today. There are many fine, cheap and effective medicines that can help control arrythmias. You may require a pacemaker or even an implantable defibrilator to help keep you from sudden cardiac arrest.
If your condition is so easily treatable, you're family is going to be very upset after you die that you chose to eat berries rather than get real medical attention.

WHY do hawthorn keep changing their players so many times through the game????????
yes, i understand they need a break but they're supposed to be fit enough to last the whole game! And was crawford in ruck last game against the roos? i didnt get a chance to find out. GO HAWKS!
WHY do hawthorn keep changing their players so many times through the game????????
That's just the way AFL football is these days, it keeps the players fresher, so they can perform at a higher level. Watch the Eagles sometime, last year's premiers. They do heaps of midfield changes, even Chris Judd spends 10-15 minutes off the ground during the game.
Reply:because the players being changed wernt doin there job on the other player
Reply:go the hawks indeed.
Actually it is the same strategy that won the lions their last premiership.
Yes the hawks are young and fit enough to sustain the intensity of the game, but keeping them fresh and un fatigued is the key to the whole ploy here keep that in mind,
so far so good and lookign forward to seeing my hawks in the 8
oh and go young buddy you champ

Try these sites for more information. I could not find anything really specific to why your tree won't bloom. What zone are you in? And has it been in that spot for the three years that you indicated?

Are Hawthorn Shield Bugs a threat or nuisance to humans?
These bugs may secrete a strong smelling fluid that can stain the skin the purpose to repel birds and other predators from eating them. Somtimes called Stink Bugs for this reason
Are Hawthorn Shield Bugs a threat or nuisance to humans?
I would not want to find one in a mouthful of lettuce as they taste foul. This is a survival technique, once a bird eats one it will not eat another. Otherwise they don't bite or harm you in any way.

Is hawthorn toxic to cats?
We've got some variety of hawthorn in the backyard, I have no idea which. But my cat likes to go back there and nibble on the newly grown leaves. Is this dangerous? She seems to enjoy the flavor and hasn't shown any side effects, but I have kept her away from there since, just in case.

Hawthorn is not harmful to cats. Scientists have proven that cats nibbling or eating hawthorn has no side affects...!

Can you take hawthorn berry extrct & garlic at the same time for high blood pressure?????????
If so what amounts are the best?
Can you take hawthorn berry extrct %26amp; garlic at the same time for high blood pressure?????????
Actually you will want to take Hawthorn Berry with Buthersbroom 30 -60 drops total a day spaced thru out day, then the garlic. Also add 1/4 tsp of unrefined sea salt (brown or red) to water in the morning and drink. Do this for one month without missing a day and your blood pressure will go down.
Reply:http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/The...
Reply:Yes, You can take both safely at the same time. Hawthorn berry extract is very strong and effective for the heart. On the bottle it should tell you exactly what amount you should be taking for it to work effectively. Most of the time the recommended dosage is 4 to 8 milliters which is almost 2 tsp. For example 5 ml is 1 tsp.
The garlic tablets is usually 2 tablets 2 times per day.
Let me also recommend this tea: 2 parts hawthorn leaf, berry and flower, 2 parts Chamomile flower, 1 part Ginger root, 1 part Green Tea leaf, 1 part Linden flower.
If you are unable to find a tea bagged with only the above stated, email me for a site that I purchase from, it's bagged and ready to be brewed and drink.
By the way, herbs are just as effective as medications without the side effects contrary to what others say. Dandly Yours, Dandelion
Reply:you can try the following medicines.viscum album or thallium met.
Reply:Don't be surprised if your bloodpressure doesn't rise with your frustration at using quack medicines of this nature.
Look into getting fit and healthy, eating better, quit your high stress job and move to a cabin in the woods, smile every now and then and give your neighbor a lift to town when his jalopy breaks down... I bet when you quit worring about your high bp it will drop on its own.
Reply:Each of them helps a bit, so both at the same time is better than one alone. For high blood pressure it is quite normal to take more than one medication, especially as the natural remedies are generally less effective than doctor's prescription medicines but in general you avoid those often dreadful side effects that you get from doctor prescribed medication.

Do you think hawthorn has the best forward line in the league?
Yes you are a smart girl, they do have the best forward line in the AFL.
Reply:I wouldn't say THE best, but they do have a good forward line with Crawford, Franklin, Osbourne, Rioil, Roughead, Williams
Other good forward lines are
Saints - Dal Santo, Reiwoldt, Harvey, Jones, Kosi, Milne
Cats - S. Johnson, Mooney, Chapman, Kelly, Hawkins, Stokes
Brisbane - Power, Brown, Lappin, Bradshaw, Brennan, Hooper
Pies - Didak, Rocca, R. Shaw, Medhurst, Cloke, Thomas
Bulldogs - Gia, Hahn, Murphy, Aker, Johnson, Welsh
Reply:Depends on the week... some weeks they fire on all cylinders, some they are shocking... same goes for most of the teams at the moment... Reply:What's better? Watching victorians scratch their head at how they never win flags anymore. If you can't win this year with the umps on your side and a near unbeatable team then you will never ever win.
Sometimes I think Victorians are like the English - they are sports mad but just don't seem to win.
Reply:all interstate loses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:whats better- is two VIC sides in the grand final with collingwood preferably not one of them :)
Reply:the umpires letting them get there, coz the afl didnt want two interstate teams in the finals!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Hard to argue with that, although a Kangas win today would top it off.

Reply:lol, Its all coming out now. The Victorians have spoken. Ok, I can take it, but will a Victorian team win the Premiership (let's see)

Given Hawthorn's young list, and how they fared this year, what r ur thoughts on the Stewart Dew selection?
Hawthorns intent was to bring accurate kicking skills to the club in the 2007 draft. Dew had one of the best kicks in football but having been retired for a year and overweight it is a huge risk, anyway good luck to Stewart I hope he proves me wrong would love to see a 60 metre pass from Dew to Franklin.
Wish it was March

He's a bit out of shape , but if he gets fit, he'll be a great sight to see.
Reply:If he can get fit for footy he may prove to be a handy pickup.
Reply:hopefully he can get fit..
personally i would not have picked him...
but hey... go the Hawks
Reply:Stewart Dew? a what now? He was great in his prime, maybe they want him in the club after retirement. Swans did this with a few players like Brett Allison, he is now assistant coach.
Reply:its a huge risk, has played no football in a year, and looks over weight, so yeah a big risk i think
Reply:I'm afraid I agree with what David Parkin said at the draft coverage the other day. He is of the opinion that Hawthorn erred by picking up Dew. He reckons Dew is too old %26amp; too unfit to have been selected in this draft.
He was of the opinion that the Hawkes should have waited until the next draft session %26amp; assessed how he had progressed with fitness to that stage.
I don't agree with the selection. It's not as if he's a Ben Cousins or similar. I thought Clarkson was committed to youth.....appears I was wrong in that view.
Reply:Maybe a risk but he will add experience to the field and hopefully inspire other players.
Reply:Being a Hawks supporter, i agree it is a risk especially given that he has put on a few kg's and is along way from being fit. Personally I would have used the last pick or waited for the next draft later on.
However, if he can get back to full fitness, i think the drive he gives with his long kicking would be great for the tall forwards we have. It's a bit each way i know, but with the tall timber we have in the forward line it's more of an advantage with the ball going there quick and long, Dew could provide that.
All that being said, due to his age, lack of fitness, and lack of touch. I did find it surprising that we picked him up. I do hope he works out well and can provide good ball for the forwards and bolster the attack even more.
Reply:might be ok after a quick diet on jenny craig
Reply:Hmmmm Stuey Dew. Interesting character. To me he's a bit like Gary Ablett Snr or Warwick Capper. Impressive but doesn't seem fit, committed and a real 'winner'.
I imagine Hawthorn's thinking was that he's a 'plug-and-play' senior player with an accurate kick (as someone rightly pointed out above). Drafting juniors is good but the Hawks must feel they're a stone's throw away from a flag now and they need one or two that they don't have to wait three years for.
If he comes with the right attitude, then there's every chance he'll do well. I think the Hawks firmed in the betting rather than going the other way but they still have a lot of work to do.
Reply:well at least they will get a bloke who ain't on drugs, might rub off on the rest of the party team, who is worse the eagles or the hawks, toss up i reckon. don't carry on i can have my opinion.

Is this the best start to an AFL season for Hawthorn EVER???
I was just wondering if any "history buffs" out there could please tell me if this year is the best start for the Hawks, if not what was and where did they finish up... or if your good enough their best record and best finish.. Thanks ... oh and go the Hawks !!! :)
Is this the best start to an AFL season for Hawthorn EVER???
Yes. Best everr.
Reply:The truth of the matter is this, it is their best start to a season, as of Sunday, in 2001 in round 9, they played essendon and got smashed by over 70 points.
Take that as gold, (brown and gold). Great start but please keep a lid on it, don't carry on like some clubs. Just enjoy it, anything can happen in footy, i have watched more seasons than most and if they loose two or three champs to injury, like(touch wood), Franklin, Mitchell and another top liner, than things can change very quickly. Crawford, Guerra and Hodge are out but they only beat Melbourne, this week will be a test, now dew too, if they don't get those blokes back, the bullies are a real chance, Lewis too.
PS, the tigers won the first 7 in 1995 and didn't go any further than the prelim, it can happen real quick, the downfall i mean.
Reply:It's been a great start to the Hawks, lets see if they can continue, especially with the injuries / suspensions to the key players they have at the moment.
Reply:According to the statistics on tele over the weekend it is. The only other teams to be 9 and 0 in recent years are Essendon and two others (sorry I cant remember the others but they were not Geelong or Hawthorn).
Reply:The First Answer Is False
Hawthorn won their first 10 games before being beaten by Essendon in 2001
Reply:Yeah except for the skipper losing the plot and tripping another player.
Reply:Yes.
First time the Hawks have ever won nine games straight.
They will come a gutser soon, though.
Reply:no , they had a better start sometime before
Reply:Yeah sure is, sure be a great game Vs The Bulldogs in Tassie
Reply:no but its a good start
good one hawks

What does hawthorn hights ohio is for lovers about?
It's a rock band.
Hawthorne Heights is for Lovers: "The five guys who make up the Ohio-spawned rock outfit don’t exactly look like the kind of guys who could change the face of mainstream rock music, connecting the dots between the burgeoning underground screamo scene and the multitudes of suburban teens looking for a bit more chemical and a little less romance. But they did. They don’t really seem like the type of dudes whose debut record, the off-handedly produced and initially panned The Silence in Black and White would go on to be certified gold and produce the rock song of 2005, the menacingly addictive anthem “Ohio is for Lovers.” But it did. And you would definitely be hard-pressed to believe that the band’s sophomore effort, If Only You Were Lonely, released February 28th on Victory Records is making industry number-crunchers salivate and will assuredly take the band to an entirely new level of mainstream acceptance. But it’s all true."
