Does the hawthorn tree hold religious significance?

My husband bought and planted a hawthorn tree in our yard for our anniversary several years ago. I've seen hawthorn referenced in several books about herbs and plants, but the information is conflicting. Do you know about this tree?

Thanks.

Does the hawthorn tree hold religious significance?
it could be a spark for a short story about a cursed seed that was stolen from the african jungle, that ends up on someone's front lawn and has to be returned before...

oh, sorry that doesn't help you. It is your tree, so you can make it mean what you would like.

uh, um.....I wouldn't have many points. Damn. I can usually do better than that. Report It

Reply:Hawthorn tree is a beautiful tree. I've grown several as bonsai. They don't need to have any religious significance for you to appreciate their beauty. There are hawthorn with pink flowers, with white flowers and with cerise flowers. I just love them.
Reply:Here is a link...I learned something from your question!

the hawthorn is used often as a May Pole

and has lots of connections to spring and fertility
Reply:Ecterbob, yes there is religious significance for the hawthorn tree.

Christian legend holds that the “Crown of Thorns” that was placed on the Head of Jesus when he was Crucified was made from the hawthorn berry tree.

There is also religious significance for the Dogwood tree. If you will examine the spring bloom, it is in the shape of a cross. There are small rust looking spots on each of the petals. Christian legend says the spots on the blooms represent the blood Jesus shed on the cross.
