What is a good herbal remedy for atherosclerosis?
Some herbal remedies have a beneficial action on the arteries, reducing build-up of plaque and perhaps helping to remove existing deposits. Herbs will be prescribed according to individual diagnosis and the symptom pattern. Description and action of the herbs used for cardiovascular health are given elsewhere.

Garlic has blood-thinning qualities. It also helps reduce high cholesterol levels.

Siberian ginseng tea reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Hawthorn leaves and blossoms reduce cholesterol levels.

Calendula strengthens, regulates and calms the heart and improve circulation.

Alfalfa leaf juice and the silica in horsetail maintain the elastic, connective tissue of the arteries and preserve their permeability.

Alfalfa meal in large amounts also lowers cholesterol because of its saponin content.

Lemon balm tea relaxes and calms the nerves.

Gugulipid, an extract of the mukul myrrh tree native to India, helps reduce both cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Cayenne (capsicum) lowers cholesterol and inhibits platelet aggregations by dilating arteries. Many angina sufferers report a remarkable improvement in their chest pain and circulation with regular supplementation of cayenne.

Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory agent as well as an antioxidant.

Forskolin, a derivative of the herb Coleus forskohlii, is a good natural bronchoditator. Forskolin has therapeutic effects in the treatment of high blood pressure, congestive heart disease and glaucoma. It helps improve circulation due to its vasoditating effects.

Herbal Combination:

Combine lime blossom, hawthorn berries (Crataegus) and/or mistletoe (Viscum album) in equal parts and make a tea from this mixture. Drink this tea two to three times daily
Reply:I wouldnt want to try that concoction of herbs, especially as mistletoe is poisonous!;
Reply:try increasing your hdl's even higher, that may help somewhat in reducing the plaque buildup - aim for higher than 50-60 ..usually high doses of Niacin (500-2000mg) helps (though high doses like that need liver monitoring)
Reply:hawthorn-prevent plaque buildup in the arteries.

elderberry-reduces cholesterol

alfalfa-reduces cholesterol (also helps with fatigue)

chromium-decreases blood lipids (fat)

these are just a few. also may want to increase your fiber intake

to assist the colon with cleaning.
