I have a book Given to me by my great grandmother... The Scarlet Letter By Hawthorn. ( doesnt say the First name) And It has no title page. (no was not torn out) and no copyright page (agian, it wasnt torn out.) and I want to no if it was a first edition or not.
How do i tell if The Book I have is a First Edition??
Post your question on the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov I am sure they have the answer. Just tell what you know about the book.
Reply:Go to an antique book seller and ask for his opinion.
Reply:Should be the first edition if it doesn't have all those details and as you claim no pages were torn out. Most books have all these details generally on the page adjacent to the title - where they also indicate the year of reprint. Look again. Check on the net and find out which year and then correlate it with your great gran's age!!
Reply:do you have the ISBN number? You can use that.
Reply:you can look in the first few pages where the publishing info is located......if its not there, call the publisher.
Reply:Man, if thats the first edition then it will be of great value and i think u should ask a reliable person in some museum because scarlet letter was written in 1850 and its a master piece by hawthorn.
