Born and raised in Perth and attended Wesley College.
Played for Perth Demons Football Club and represented W.A in the u/18 National Carnival. Hawthorn selected him with their second pick, number five overall, in the 2004 AFL Draft.
From where did Buddy Franklin come? All I can find is that he suddenly appeared at Hawthorn from Perth.?
